Rep. Sykes Congratulates the 2024 Congressional App Challenge Winner
AKRON, OH — Today, during National Computer Science Education Week, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced William Arrowood of Akron as the 2024 winner of the Congressional App Challenge for Ohio’s 13th District.
“I’m pleased to announce William Arrowood from Akron’s NIHF STEM High School as the winner of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for Ohio’s 13th District. It is inspiring to see how William turned his interest in the stock market into a learning tool that can benefit others,” said Rep. Sykes. “Thank you to every student who entered this competition — I’m excited to see what you create next!”
William is a student at National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) STEM High School in Akron. His app, "How to Beat Bezos," is an innovative stock market simulator game that educates players on the nuances of buying and selling stocks for profit. Each year, the United States House of Representatives hosts the Congressional App Challenge, a nationwide app building competition for middle and high school students. As the winner for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, William’s app will be proudly displayed in the Capitol, where visitors from across the country and the world can appreciate his innovation and creativity. He will also have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. this spring for the annual #HouseOfCode event, which features winners from across the country.
